Let students feel how energy travels and how communities respond, through movement and a hands-on model.
The wave energy model
Model a tsunami physically: students stand in a line holding a long rope or stretched sheet. One end is "shoved" (the undersea quake) and the class watches the energy travel along to the far end, which surges up — showing that it's energy moving through the water, not the water travelling across the ocean. A tray of water with a tilted board for the "seafloor lift" makes a great group demo too.
Prepare-and-respond role play
Act out a community responding to a warning. Assign roles (emergency services, residents, warning system) and run a 2-minute drill for each case-study event — students physically "evacuate to high ground" for a tsunami, "secure loose objects" for a cyclone. Doing the response makes the preparation memorable.
