Use news-style talk and structured discussion to analyse the events and responses.
News report round-up
Each group becomes a "news desk" for their case-study event and delivers a 30-second spoken bulletin covering cause, effect on the land and people, and how the community responded. Presenting aloud to the class shares all four events by ear.
Listen to a real account
Play a short, age-appropriate news or survivor audio clip of an extreme event (sound only). Students listen for cause, effect and response, then discuss what they heard before seeing any footage.
Exit ticket aloud
Students say one preparation that reduces harm to a partner, explaining why it helps — the spoken reasoning is the assessable moment.
