We do: build a working circuit

Grab your circuit kit. We'll build a working circuit together, step by step.

Build along with me

Connect: cell → wire → globe → wire → back to cell. Does it light?
Now remove one wire. What happens? (The loop is broken — the globe goes out.)
Add the switch. Open and close it — watch the globe respond.

Stop and think: Where in your circuit is energy being transformed — and into what?

Never connect the cell straight to a wire with no globe — that's a short circuit and makes the wire and cell hot.
