- C1 Living Things in a Changing Environment Biological sciences. How changing environmental conditions and human activities affect the growth and survival of living things — habitats, food/resource availability, introduced species, conservation and human impact. Builds toward an evidence-based response to a local or global environmental problem.
- C2 Reversible and Irreversible Change Chemical sciences. Classifying changes to substances as reversible (e.g. melting, dissolving, freezing) or irreversible (e.g. burning, cooking, rusting, mixing reactants). Observing chemical change, identifying new substances, and comparing the two kinds of change through hands-on investigation.
- C3 Sudden Changes to Earth's Surface Earth and space sciences. The effects of sudden geological events (earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis) and extreme weather (cyclones, extreme heat, floods) on Earth's surface — causes, impacts on communities and landscapes, and how people prepare for and respond to them.
- C4 Electrical Circuits and Energy Physical sciences. The transfer and transformation of energy in electrical circuits: the role of circuit components (cells, wires, globes, switches), drawing circuits with conventional symbols, series vs parallel arrangements, and testing materials as conductors or insulators. Anchored by a foil-circuit investigation.
- C5 Working Scientifically: Inquiry Skills Science inquiry skills (cross-cutting, taught and assessed through the four content components). Posing testable questions with variables to change and measure; making reasoned predictions; planning and conducting fair, safe, repeatable investigations with controlled variables; recording and representing data in tables, graphs (including line graphs) and models; evaluating fairness; and communicating findings in scientific reports.
