The Great Turn: Collectivisation and Industrialisation
The economic changes that transformed Russia/the USSR to 1945. The results of the NEP, including the scissor crisis and the kulaks; the Great Turn and the 15th Party Congress, and the reasons for it (autarky, military strength, grain supply and socialism); collectivisation and famine — the nature of Soviet agriculture, dekulakisation, peasant reaction and the Great Famine including the Holodomor in Ukraine; and industrialisation through Gosplan and the Five-Year Plans, including Stakhanovism, achievements, the human cost, urbanisation and the New Soviet Man.
