Australia in 1918: Conditions and Significant Ideas

The economic, political and social conditions in Australia in 1918. An overview of the political parties; protectionist economic policy and reliance on wheat and wool; and social conditions including the Immigration Restriction Act ('White Australia'), the treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, and the position of women in the family and workforce. Introduces the significant ideas of egalitarianism, assimilation, communism, Aboriginal activism and nationalism.
