Attempts at Peace: Camp David, Oslo and the UN

Attempts to settle the conflict. The Camp David Accords (1978) and the Egypt–Israel peace treaty as the first major breakthrough; the Oslo Accords (1993) and mutual recognition between Israel and the PLO; the Camp David Summit (2000), its failure and the outbreak of the Second Intifada; and the role and limitations of the United Nations (UNSC Resolutions 242 and 338, and UNRWA's support for refugees). An evaluation of why some attempts succeeded and others failed.
