Task 7 – Historical Inquiry: Attempts to Settle the Arab–Israeli Conflict

Task

Historical inquiry (Task 7). Part A: a two-week inquiry (with a research organiser assessed for the inquiry process) investigating two attempts to settle conflicts between Arabs and Israelis, using at least four primary and secondary sources reflecting different perspectives. Part B: an in-class validation essay (5 minutes planning, 50 minutes working, no notes) on an unseen question, e.g. "With reference to two conflicts, debate the proposition: Attempts to settle conflicts between Arabs and Israelis have always ended in failure." Official SCSA weighting: 10% of the school mark for the Unit 3–4 pair (Historical inquiry type weighting 20%).

Argument and communication 30% In the in-class validation, develops a sustained, evidence-based argument addressing the unseen proposition with reference to two conflicts (Part B).
Historical questions and inquiry 30% Frames focus questions, develops a coherent research plan, and locates and organises at least four relevant primary and secondary sources reflecting different perspectives, correctly referenced (Part A).
