Lesson 6 — From Raw Materials to Processed Materials 1 / 5

Where do materials come from? Most of them start in nature and are changed by people to make them useful. 🌿➡️🧵

Step 1: A raw material comes straight from nature.

  • 🐑 wool from sheep
  • ⛰️ ore (metal rock) from the ground
  • 🏖️ sand
  • 🛢️ oil from underground

Step 2: People change raw materials into processed materials that are more useful.

Wool Yarn Sand Glass Oil Plastic

Step 3: The steps of processing can be shown as a flowchart.

🐑 sheep → ✂️ shear → 🧼 clean → 🧵 spin → 👕 weave

Each arrow is one step that changes the material a little more.

Your turn! 🧩

  1. Play the matching game — pair each raw material with what it becomes.
  2. Build a flowchart for one material.
  3. Complete the From Raw to Useful worksheet.

Remember: raw = straight from nature; processed = changed by people.
