Lesson 4 — Build an Ecosystem (Assessment) 1 / 5

Today you get to show everything you have learned about ecosystems by building your own! 🌳

This is your chance to be the scientist and put it all together.

Let's remember the three roles before we start:

🌱 Producer
makes its own food from the Sun

🦘 Consumer
eats other living things

🍄 Decomposer
breaks down dead things

Remember the golden rule of food-chain arrows:

🌱  →  🐛  →  🐦

The arrow always points towards the eater — the way the energy travels.

Here's what markers are looking for. Aim for all four! ✅

  • The right roles (producers, consumers, a decomposer)
  • Food chains with arrows pointing to the eater
  • Clear reasons in your explanations (use "because")
  • Good science words (producer, consumer, decomposer, energy, nutrients)

Time to build! 🎨

  1. Part A: Draw your tree ecosystem with producers, consumers and a decomposer, joined by food-chain arrows.
  2. Part B: Name each living thing's role.
  3. Part C: Explain a food chain and the decomposer's job.
  4. Part D: Explain what happens if one living thing disappears.

Take your time and do your best work. You've got this! 💪
