Today we are becoming ecosystem explorers! We will find out what living and non-living things share the world around us.
🌳 🦎 🪨 💧 🐝
Step 1: Living things all do three things.
- They grow and change.
- They need food, water and air.
- They can make more of their own kind.
A gum tree, a bee and you are all living things.
Step 2: Non-living things were never alive.
Rocks, water, sand and air are non-living. They cannot grow or make more of themselves — but living things still need them!

Step 3: An ecosystem is all the living and non-living things in one place that depend on each other.
Step 4: Everything is connected. If one part changes, the others feel it too.
Think about it: 🤔
- What would happen to the fish if the water dried up?
- What would happen to the frog if all the insects disappeared?
Your turn! 🔎
- Go on the schoolground walk and find living and non-living things.
- Sort them on the class chart.
- Complete the Ecosystem Explorer worksheet.
Remember: living things grow, need things, and make more of themselves.
